419 Scams

I received my very first 419 scam e-mail message after having this web site online for a couple of months. It was from someone who said her name was "Victoria Malafi" and she was interested in buying some real estate in the U.S. and wanted me to assist. Since this was the first 419 scam message I had ever received, I actually thought this might be a legitimate request.

Still, I was a bit skeptical as I replied to her e-mail message and told her I would be happy to help. There was something about her replies however, that did not seem straightforward, and I became even more suspicious and decided to investigate a little bit.

I was able to trace the origin of her e-mail to Nigeria, and it was at that point that I knew she was attempting to scam me. Although I had never personally received a 419 scam message prior to this, I had come across stories of Nigerian scams on the Internet a number of times. At this point I decided to call her bluff.

In my next message I asked her if she was intending to move from Nigeria to the U.S. Since she had never mentioned that she was in Nigeria, that must have tipped her off that I did a little bit of digging, and I never heard from her again. At least not using that name, anyway!

In the 419 Scam Showcase I have listed actual e-mail messages I have received that fall under the classification of 419 scams. Hopefully, these examples will provide potential victims with information that will better prepare them to see these scams for what they really are.

Many of these are a bit on the old side and that is because I actually got tired of receiving these messages and deleted the e-mail account that seemed to be attracting so many of them a few months back. Since I decided to add this particular feature to my web site, I have re-created that e-mail account and began receiving SPAM on it almost immediately! I only hope that all my favorite 419 scammers have not given up on me during the time that e-mail address was out of service!

UPDATE: After re-activating the e-mail address in question, I am happy (?) to report that the expected flood of SPAM and scams had resumed and I shall be posting them here as I receive them.

ANOTHER UPDATE: With all the scam messages I have posted here this far, I feel that there is a pretty good collection of the current scams represented and there was really no point in posting the same kinds of scam messages over and over again. I have once again de-activated the e-mail address to spare myself the flood of scams and spams.
