Real Estate Truth

This site was born as a result of my brief career in real estate. Trying to make a living after being laid off from the high tech industry and not making much real progress can cause a person to do strange things. In my case, I became a real estate agent.

There is a fair amount of information here that relates to New Hampshire real estate, and much of that I will leave intact and hope that visitors will find it useful or interesting at least.

Chances are that this is one of the most unusual real estate sites you have encountered since, unlike the typical real estate site, I no longer have a stake in anything real estate-related -- other then my house, that is!

I am no longer involved with real estate in any way. I was planning to keep my real estate license active and do referrals (which I would be paid for by being given a percentage of the commission that was earned by the agent that actually completed the deal) but as I became more involved in other business ventures, I pretty much lost any desire I had to be involved in real estate in any capacity.

I was affiliated with one of the big real estate companies during my time as an agent and had to be somewhat careful about what I put on this site since there were guidelines to be followed if one wanted to stay out of trouble. Those guidelines no longer apply, and I am free to say whatever I like. Within the boundaries of the law, of course.

Not that I have any Earth-shattering exposé to unleash or any terrible things to say about the company I was affiliated with. I simply don't, but I do have a few things to say about my experiences and talk a little about what I learned as a real estate agent.

I plan to write a lot more about my experience as a real estate agent in my blog, but to summarize briefly, it seemed to me at the time to be an interesting opportunity and a job that offered a lot of freedom -- something I craved and was never able to enjoy while working in the corporate world.

Ironically, not long after I was on board with one of the big real estate companies, I could see signs that the atmosphere was becoming more corporate and that steps were being taken to reduce some of the freedoms that had been enjoyed by agents.

The bottom line is that I did not enjoy my experience as a real estate agent. At all. And the reason for that is because it just wasn't the job for me. I have nothing bad to say about the job or the people I worked with. In fact, most of the people I worked with were great and I am thankful that I was fortunate enough to be associated with so many genuinely nice people during my short career.

Since there are people who are visiting this site in search of real estate information, I will -- as I mentioned previously -- keep most of the information here. However, there are other directions the site will be going in as well. A well-established web site is not something you allow to fall by the wayside -- as any Internet entrepreneur will readily tell you.

Those who are seeking the "New Hampshire Home Buyer Resources" that were here previously, you will no longer find MLS listings here. If you are looking for listings, you won't have too look too hard. Just use Google or one of the other major search engines and search for something like "NH MLS Listings" and you'll have access to more MLS Listings than you can ever use.

For a while I had a link here to MLS Listings on the web site owned and operated by the real estate company I was affiliated with, but I decided to remove that as they tend to get a little nervous about other sites linking to them that they have no control over. Although I was in touch with them recently regarding this very issue and they had no problem with the link, I decided to remove it anyway and avoid any future hassles. (Yes, I am aware that there are no laws about who you can link to, but I don't want to waste time exchanging e-mails with inquisitive company I.T. minions).

In case you are curious about what became of me after I decided to leave real estate, I am happy to report that I am involved with a number of Internet-based businesses that are doing pretty well and should do even better in the future, and in a way, I have real estate to thank for that.

Of all the experiences I had during my brief relationship with the real estate industry, I discovered that the one thing I really enjoyed about the job was working on my web site and conducting research on the Internet that helped me put the site together and get people to come and visit.

It was during this process that I discovered a whole new world of opportunity to do something I really enjoyed, and I have been doing that ever since. As someone who never enjoyed having a "real" job (even real estate was too close to that for my taste), I can't imagine working for anyone else ever again, and for someone like me, that's the difference that makes getting up in the morning something to look forward to every day instead of something to dread.
